United States: MWE Welcomes Italian Partners
Last Updated: October 14 2003

As part of McDermott, Will & Emery’s commitment to providing outstanding global service to our clients, we have partnered with a top-tier presence in Italy. Effective September 1, 2003, MWE combined practices with the prestigious Italian law firm Carnelutti Studio Legale Associato, gaining two new offices in the important financial centers of Milan and Rome. Adding to our Düsseldorf, London and Munich locations, the agreement further anchors MWE in the European market and expands our network to 14 offices worldwide.

Italy is a major market—the sixth largest economy in Europe and active in the area of mergers and acquisitions. It is important for us and for our clients to have a presence here, especially on cross-border M&A deals. And Carnelutti is a perfect fit, in terms of its capabilities and its culture of providing high levels of client service. Established more than 100 years ago, Carnelutti is the oldest existing law firm in Italy. The firm has advised on many of the largest cross-border transactions in Italy in recent years, distinguishing itself as the most internationally minded among independent Italian law firms.

In Italy, we operate under the name McDermott, Will & Emery/Carnelutti Studio Legale Associato. Luca Arnaboldi, Carnelutti’s managing partner, will serve as partner-in-charge of Italy. He focuses his practice on M&A, corporate finance and media. He often lectures on media law at the University of Milan and on industrial law at LIUC, University of Castellanza. He is also a well-known commentator on Italian TV and radio.

Marino Bastianini, Carnelutti’s chairman, will serve as senior partner. Marino’s practice includes mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring, with a particular emphasis on international law. He received his law degree from the University of Milan in 1957 and is a member of the International and Italian Bar Associations.

We are delighted to start in Italy with Carnelutti and its outstanding team of professionals, and we will continue to expand our capabilities to support our clients in Europe and elsewhere.
