The RCMP's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) is assisting the Toronto Police with an investigation regarding an assault that took place last Saturday in a Canadian Tire at Cedarbrae Mall.

INSET, a specialized team, is called in when they are required to track, deter and disrupt terrorist groups or individuals who pose a threat to Canadian national security, as indicated on the RCMP website.

The incident that took place in Canadian Tire involved Rehab Dughmosh, 32. She walked into the paint section and proceeded to swing a golf club at employees, uttered threats, and pulled a knife from under her clothing.

She was charged with:

  • Two counts of assault with a weapon
  • One count of assault
  • One count of uttering a threat to cause death
  • Two counts of possessing a weapon for committing an offence
  • One count of carrying a concealed weapon

During her bail hearing on Tuesday, when asked to identify herself for the record, she made a reference in Arabic to "the leader of the believers," according to the translator.

She is to remain in custody until her next appearance which is scheduled for June 21st at 9 a.m.

There was no comment as to why the INSET team is involved because the investigation is ongoing.
