In a recent press release, IIROC announced that it has been granted powers by the Prince Edward Island Office of Superintendent of Securities to permit it to collect fines it levies through the courts. Previously, IIROC had to seek individual court approval before it could take steps to enforce collection. PEI joins Alberta and Quebec as provinces which also have authority to collect fines. In its press release IIROC noted that in 2016, it levied over $4.5 million worth of fines in 2016 but only collected 20% of those fines.
