Robert Cohen's article "Slapping the New Anti-SLAPP Legislation" was published in the May 30, 2016, edition of Law Times, as part of the "Speaker's Corner" series.

In the article, Robert looks at Protection of Public Participation Act (PPPA). The PPPA was enacted with the hope that the it would "allow the public to participate more freely in public discussions without fear of retribution by giving them a better way to defend themselves against strategic lawsuits, commonly known as SLAPPs (Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation)," thus promoting free speech.

"While the goals of the legislation are laudable," writes Robert, he questions if it will really work, and if we really need it.
