January 2016 was a busy month in the Canadian immigration
industry. Here is a summary of some important developments that
took place under the family class and under the federal Express
Entry as well as the provincial nominee skilled worker streams.
Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program
On January 4, 2016, Citizenship and Immigration Canada began
receiving 10,000 sponsorship applications for parents and
grandparents (PGP) of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
However the 2016 intake threshold was
quickly reached and this program has been capped.

Express Entry Immigration
Through January 27, 2016, CIC conducted 3 draws issuing 4,449
invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
It is expected that the majority of Invitations to Apply
(ITA's) under Canada's Express Entry System in 2016 will
require a CRS score of less than 500 points. As a result, many
applicants can expect to obtain permanent admission to Canada
without a job offer or nomination under a provincial immigration

October 12th, 2016 - Immigration authorities conducted the 21st round of invitations under Express Entry in 2016 and 44th overall, inviting 1518 applicants for permanent residence with a lowest CRS score of 484.
October 19th, 2016 - Immigration authorities conducted the 22nd round of invitations under Express Entry in 2016 and 45th overall, inviting 1804 applicants for permanent residence, the largest number ever. The lowest CRS score was 475, a decline from the previous draw.
September 21st, 2016 - Immigration authorities conducted the 20th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2016 and 43rd overall, inviting 1288 applicants for permanent residence with a lowest CRS score of 483.
