Reducing photocopying and mailing costs

The cost of providing written notices to condominium owners, especially those who do not reside in the building, could be reduced if condominium corporations took advantage of section 47(7) of the Condominium Act. This allows condominium corporations to serve owners by electronic mail or facsimile if they obtain written permission from the owner to do so. When owners are asked to sign PAP forms for payments, management should also have them sign a consent to receive electronic or facsimile notices and have them provide their e-mail or facsimile address. The form signed by the unit owner must state that he or she acknowledges that all communications will be delivered either by electronic mail or facsimile at the addresses provided, unless the corporation is provided with written notice of a new method of delivery.
