On May 14, 2015, Bill 24, the new British Columbia Societies Act, received royal assent. Bill 24 repeals and replaces the current Society Act with the Societies Act. The Societies Act modernizes the rules for the creation and governance of societies in British Columbia. In a previous issue of this Newsletter, we described the significant changes to the governance of societies in British Columbia under Bill 24.

Currently, there is no timetable for the implementation of the new Societies Act. The B.C. Government is also expected to draft regulations prior to the Societies Act coming into force. It is projected that the Societies Act will come into force in approximately 18 months.
