April 9, 2014 – Canada's Minister of Citizenship and Immigration yesterday announced a new active recruitment model for economic immigration.  The model, to be called "Express Entry" is set to launch in January 2015.  The program was formerly called "Expression of Interest".

The program will offer qualified candidates holding valid job offers or nominations under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) the opportunity to quickly apply for Permanent Residence.  The Government expects that the program will offer faster processing times – 6 months or less – when applicants are invited to Canada through one of four economic streams: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the PNP. As part of the program, the Government will set up a Job Bank to facilitate matches between employers and candidates for the program.

Full details of the program, including eligibility criteria and thresholds, are expected to be released soon.
