The Commissioner of Competition has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the CRTC regarding the implementation of Canada's new Anti-Spam Legislation(CASL), the Bureau announced recently.

The MOU sets out a framework addressing cooperation and coordination between the different agencies in enforcing the CASL. It addresses the treatment of information shared between the agencies in the context of enforcement activities, and also clarifies the role of each agency in the context of enforcement of the CASL. This is necessary to avoid a potential overlap between the enforcement activities of each of the agencies.

The CASL and its regulations will come into force on July 1, 2014.
