Through the Ministry of Research and Innovation (the "Ministry"), the Government of Ontario has committed to investing $190 million over the next six years to develop new technologies, retain leading scientists, increase innovation, and create jobs. The news release can be found here.
The funding will be shared by the Research Excellence1 ($65 million) and Research Infrastructure2 ($125 million) programs under the Ministry's Ontario Research Fund (ORF).

Canada's research and innovation has not gone unnoticed, with Canada ranking sixth in the world in its research performance. Over half of Canada's research is attributable to Ontario. According to the government news release, 150 new companies have been founded and 20,000 researchers trained in the Province in the past ten years.
The Ministry also supports entrepreneurship and advancement through the Innovation Demonstration Fund and Ontario Venture Capital Fund (see our blog posts here and here).
