In late December 2013, the Ontario Ministry of Labour introduced a new Safety Training Standard for workers who work at heights. The new Standard covers both theoretical and practical training and addresses topics that include rights and responsibilities of workers, hazard identification, elimination and control, use and maintenance of fall protection equipment, anchor points, use of ladders and work positioning systems and platforms, barriers and safety nets, and rescue planning.

The Standard is currently voluntary and is intended to apply to construction workers, but will likely be made mandatory for all workers who work at heights by the summer of 2014.
