We remember

This is a day for remembrance and gratitude. We, who live here in Canada, are among the luckiest people in the world, despite the follies and flaws of some of our leaders and governments. From my family's experience, both in the Holocaust and now, I am acutely aware that peace and security are not automatic and cannot be taken for granted.  I am deeply grateful to everyone who has helped to make it so.

This is also a good day to think about what we owe to people in less fortunate places, such as the Philippines, whose already substantial troubles are worsened by the climate change that we are helping to cause. And about the wars that climate disruption is likely to trigger, as Gwynne Dyer described so well in Climate Wars.
