Mandatory Reporting of Breaches and Enhanced Consent Requirements
On September 29, 2011, the government reintroduced to the
Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents
Act which were first tabled in the last Parliament but ended
up dying on the Order Paper when Parliament was prorogued. It is to
be expected that the amendments will face little opposition and
they could well be in force by the end of the year.
The amendments provide for significant changes to PIPDEDA,
some of which update the legislation and bring it in to line with
its provincial counterparts, and others which will require
businesses to review, and perhaps revamp, their privacy policies
and procedures.
