There are so many things we can learn from celebrities. How to lose 20kg of baby weight in 2 weeks, how to style jeggings and, now, how to sue people for fun and profit.

If you're famous, there are big bucks in exclusive media deals for all of life's precious moments. Kim and Kanye are the latest celebrities to sue a gatecrasher after an unauthorised video of Kanye's proposal to Kim was leaked to the internet. It's only slightly ironic that the reality star is now trying to suppress publicity of her private life.

Kim and Kanye had all their guests, including the gatecrasher, sign confidentiality agreements. A good idea as it can make suing for profit much more straightforward. Although, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas's wedding sparked a similar suit a few years back. In that case the magazine with the exclusive deal on photos won on a case for breach of confidence against a gatecrasher – no contract required.

Either way, the strategy is pretty well established. First, get really, really famous. Next, host an exclusive, private event with lots of other really, really famous people. Ensure security is lacklustre at best. Sign a lucrative exclusive media deal. Then act horrified when a gatecrasher capitalises on your event. Sue vigorously.
