WorkCover safety reminder after Parkes farm worker
WorkCover NSW is reminding farms and rural workplaces of the
dangers of working with and around field bins. The Code of
practice: Safe use of bulk solids containers and flatbed storage
including silos, field bins and chaser bins outlines the typical
hazards associated with such storage, and describes means of
eliminating or controlling the risks arising from them (10 July

Two companies and a company director have been fined a total of
$147,000 and ordered to pay WorkCover's legal costs after a
worker fell around 3.4 metres at a residential building worksite in
Western Sydney (08 July 2013).
Drinking, drugs costing Australian workplaces
In a paper just written for the Australian Drug Foundation,
workplace drug and alcohol experts Dr Ken Pidd and Professor Ann
Roche report that alcohol use is responsible for: Five per cent of
all Australian workplace deaths, and up to 11 per cent of non-fatal
injuries (08 July 2013).
Engineering company fined $116,000 after fatality at
An engineering company, a director and the company's general
manager have been fined a total of $116,000 and ordered to pay
WorkCover's legal costs after a 26-year-old fitter and
machinist was killed at their workshop in Narellan, west of
Campbelltown (04 July 2013).
SA company fined after employee's arm crushed in
The Industrial Court has fined Conroy's Smallgoods $90,000
plus legal fees after an employee's wrist and forearm were
crushed in a machine (03 July 2013).
Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance
The Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance is a collaborative
partnership between business, the mental health sector and
government and was officially launched by the National Mental
Health Commission today (01 July 2013).
