MA welcomes shortages legislation
Medicines Australia has welcomed the introduction of the
Therapeutic Goods Amendment (2018 Measures No. 1) Bill
2018 into the Parliament. This legislation will go a long way
to ensuring there is timely and relevant information available on
the supply of medicines, which will assist patients and their
doctors (and other health care providers) to manage their treatment
plans to receive uninterrupted care (28 June 2018).

ACCC seeks Special Leave to appeal Full Federal
Court's Pfizer judgment
The ACCC has sought Special Leave from the High Court to
appeal the Full Federal Court's judgment of 25 May 2018 which
upheld the dismissal of allegations against Pfizer Australia Pty
Ltd (Pfizer) by the trial judge. In early 2012,
Pfizer offered significant discounts and the release of rebates
accrued on previous sales of Lipitor to pharmacies. Pfizer's
offer was conditional upon pharmacies acquiring a minimum volume of
Pfizer's generic atorvastatin and agreeing to restrict their
re-supply of competing genetic atorvastatin products (25 June

received cancer patient's tissue
Queensland children have mistakenly been given human
tissue from a donor who had cancer, authorities have revealed.
Queensland's chief health officer Jeannette Young made the
alarming revelations while announcing a review into the state's
trouble-plagued heart valve bank (22 June 2018).

Queensland industrial manslaughter laws –1
July
The Queensland Parliament introduced industrial
manslaughter provisions into the Work Health and Safety Act
2011, Electrical Safety Act 2002, and Safety in
Recreational Water Activities Act 2011 in October 2017. The
new offence captures a person conducting a business or undertaking,
or a senior officer, who is found to have negligently caused the
death of a worker in Queensland.
