On March 29, 2018, the New York attorney general released a report documenting the record number of data
breach notices filed with the New York Attorney General's
office in 2017. According to the report, companies and other
entities reported 1,583 data breaches to the office in 2017 and
reported exposing the personal information of 9.2 million New
Yorkers. This was quadruple the number of New Yorkers reportedly
affected in 2016.
