The feature film I Am Not A Witch, produced by Emily Morgan of our client Soda Pictures, has been named in the line-up for the Directors' Fortnight at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

I Am Not A Witch is a debut feature by BAFTA-nominated Welsh-Zambian filmmaker Rungano Nyoni and tells the story of a nine-year-old girl growing up in an African village who is exiled to a witch camp in the desert and told she will turn into a goat if she attempts to escape.

The film was financed by the British Film Institute, Film4 and Film Cymru Wales. Harbottle & Lewis advised on all aspects of the financing and production for the film.

"We're delighted that I Am Not A Witch has been selected as one of the films to be showcased at this year's Directors' Fortnight," said Abigail Payne, partner at Harbottle & Lewis. "It was a pleasure to work with Emily and the team at Soda and we're proud to see their hard work recognised by one of the industry's leading festivals."

Emily Morgan, producer of the film, commented: "Despite our complex international set-up, Abigail led the film closing with invaluable expertise and admirable efficiency. I look forward to working with Harbottle & Lewis on more co-productions in the future."

Directors' Fortnight, which is a separately organised selection running parallel to the official festival, runs from 18-28 May in Cannes and showcases a programme of international features, shorts and documentaries.
