The election of Donald J. Trump as President creates uncertainty of policy, but certainty of change. The President-elect's policies on financial regulation, and on economic regulation generally, are still largely undefined. As campaign rhetoric gives way to on-the-ground realities, it is likely that his pre-election declarations will not match the final proposals. The real economic and political debate is just beginning.
There can be great upside to uncertainty. It is an opportunity for re-examination and discussion. For the last two Presidential terms, regulatory policy has been on a fixed course, and the policy debate seemed to center on how quickly more regulations would be imposed. But change is here. Despite the uncertainty, President-elect Trump is steering a new course and re-opening the debate.
CCAT is intended to give expression to that debate. We hope that it will provide a real platform upon which ideas can clash.
