In the May 27, 2016, Federal Register, as part of
FSMA implementation, FDA issued a final rule requiring registered
food facilities to address hazards that may be introduced with the
intention to cause wide-scale public health harm. Among other
things, these food facilities must conduct a vulnerability
assessment to identify significant vulnerabilities and actionable
process steps, as well as implement mitigation strategies to
significantly minimize or prevent vulnerabilities identified at
actionable process steps in a food operation. Rule is
effective July 26, 2016.
