Christina A. Stoneburner was featured in the Law.com article, "Texas Rangers Employee Shows Why Companies Should Have a Social Media Policy." Full text can be found in the October 8, 2015 issue, but a synopsis is below.

A Texas Rangers employee has recently been terminated by the organization for posting biased claims on the team's Twitter account concerning the loss of his college alma mater's football game. The accused employee was so displeased with the team's performance that he made cruel remarks regarding the team's head coach from the companies Twitter account rather than his own.

Christina A. Stoneburner of Fox Rothschild said, "This is another example of why it is important to have policies and guidelines for the use of social media by employees and to clearly explain that termination could result from a violation of those policies."

"Terminating the employee in this situation is easier since the employee used the official company Twitter account to send the tweet, but employers in jurisdictions that have lawful off-duty activities statutes need to be careful before acting on a negative tweet," said Stoneburner.
