On August 11, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $169 million in funding under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for 266 new community health centers in 46 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. HHS expects the new centers to improve access to primary healthcare services for more than 1.2 million people.
The new funding is in addition to $101 million that was awarded to 164 new health center sites in May of this year. Earlier rounds of ACA funding for health centers were discussed here.
HHS's new announcement was made during National Health Center Week, which HHS called "an annual celebration that highlights the many accomplishments of the Nation's health centers."
