Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Overview of the Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food System 2013 describes Canada's agriculture and agri-food system as a "modern, highly complex, integrated, internationally competitive and growing part of the Canadian economy" — and we agree! There is a lot to be excited about when it comes to Canada's food, beverage and agribusiness sector. It is a resilient sector that has responded positively to challenges and opportunities of increasing globalization, advancing technologies and evolving consumer demands. In 2013, the Canadian food and agribusiness sector was the subject of a number of high-profile transactions (see Food and Agribusiness Transaction Highlights, page 2).Canada continues to be a leading exporter, and a significant importer, of agricultural and agri-food products. In the coming year, we anticipate growth in the global food and agri-business sector to be fuelled by improving global economic conditions, and Canada continues to be wellpositioned to benefit from such increased growth in the global food and agribusiness sector.
